Joy Division - Warsaw (Bootleg) 1991

We all know of the Great English band "Joy Division", but what some don't know is that they originally called themselves "Warsaw", and they recorded a bunch of tracks for RCA Records, which were intended for an album, but the band didn't like the synths that the producers added to the tracks and so they quit RCA and the album was never released. These recordings eventually turned up in slightly diffrent forms on Joy Division's early realeases and eventually they appeared in their original form on a bootleg titled "Warsaw By Warsaw". Now, a friend of mine at high school was a Joy division fanatic and had several hard to get bootlegs of them and he made me a tape of this particular one. This tape lived in my car almost permanantly and I use to blast it all the time when I was on long trips around out to beautiful Island. It became one of my all time favourites and the passion and the beautiful reverbaration of the guitar sound is truly awesome. Although it is low-fi it is very clear, the lyrics are easy to understand and the guitar just is amazing, the way it ends on "Interzone", the awesome riff of "Falures" and the incredible "No Love Lost". Every song is just stunning, the rawness and passion dominate these tracks, the greatest punk album never made. Eventually the tape expired and as I had lost contact with its source, my life was destined to be "Warsaw free," untill several years ago, when I actually found it on CD, released in 1994 on Movie Play, I was over the moon, static, I thought I would never hear this stuff again. So it was with great excitment that I gently placed the shiny new disc into my stereo and prepared to be transported into bliss. But AAARGH, what the hell is this, the fools had ruined it, the complete d**k who remastered it had almost completly rendered it unlistenable, the base and drums had been turned up and distorted and almost drowned out the most incendary guitaring ever. I was devastated, the CD got put in its rightful place on my shelf and was destined to be played only very occasionally. I did have many of the tracks on other Joy Division albums and Compilations, but these versions, although very good, left me somewhat disappointed, empty. Recently, something made me drag out the CD for another listen and I then decided to see if I could again track down the original unmolested recordings. As far as My ears remember, I seem to have been sucessful, I did find the 1994 Movie play version on a couple of Blogs, but after digging deeper into other sources I am delighted to say that the state of bliss has been returned to my ears and now I wish to share it with you descerning people. So get this totally fantastic music here folks and remember my motto, Play Loud and enjoy. Roddus.

Jackson Browne - The Nina Demos 1966-67

Hey folks, I posted 'The Criterion Demos' FIRST the other day and did some more homework on this top man "Jackson Browne" and found that "The Nina Demos" were still to be posted. These are very highly sought after as only 100 copies of these sessions were ever pressed on vinyl when Jackson was only 18 years old. The first 17 tracks from this collection were recorded at the Jaycina Studios in New York on January 7, 1967 and the rest were recorded at the Columbia Records Studio in Los Angeles, California in October 1966. Collectively both these sessions are known as "The Nina Demos". So folks, if you wanna hear the roots of a true talent, then get these very collectible and thoroughly enjoyable sessions here FIRST. I also found a link to his lyrics for this set.

Rockpile - A Mess Of Blues 1979

Up next are two of my favorite artists collaborating together on "A Mess Of Blues" from 1979. "Rockpile" comprises of "Dave Edmunds" of "Love Sculpture" fame and "Nick Lowe" of "Brinsley Schwarz" ilk and others. This is a live album that contains some very good covers from 'Jerry Lee Lewis' and "Elvis" to name a few. This band are on request from Newman, one of my most regular readers and commentators. I guess he is my Number 2 fan after Roddus. But no fighting lads.

Donovan - There Are No Roads (Open Road Sessions) 1970

"There Are No Roads" by the masterful 'Donovan' are the lost recordings that went on to what we probably know and aspire to acquire as the "Open Road Sessions". This is a truly wonderful recording containing some beautiful rarities. This album is wrapped and a low bit-rate, but there is no loss in quality after some 38 years. And this goes out to Christo O'Gordo who had this album penned as his elusive 'Holy Grail' until recently and was most kind indeed when he decided to share it with us. You are too kind Christo. Thank you.

Bob Catley - Live At The Gods 1998

This next album "Live At The Gods" is really gonna rock your socks off. And I am posting this for the pleasure of Jan and friends. It has been on his wishlist for a while and I am delighted to offer him one of his wishes. It is a live bootleg of "Magnum" supremo "Bob Catley" recorded at 'The Gods', Wigan, England on November 15 1998. FYI, Richard Ashcroft from "The Verve" is also from Wigan. Well, what can I say apart from this is an truly excellent display of how to do it live and do it with gusto. And if you are not singing along,(music lyrics included), trying to headbang and air-guitar at the same time, then you don't know rock music and should stick to listening to James Blunt. Anyway, this one's for you Jan, and I hope you got lucky with those Demos I hooked you up with.

Frank Zappa - The Lost Amougies Sessions 1969

As I delve deep into the annuls of music history, I dredge up another rare piece of forgotten treasure - Frank Zappa recorded at The Amougies, Actuel Festival, Belgium 24 to 27 October 1969. These recordings were thought not to exist ... until now that is. One or two people have posted the Pink Floyd set, but as far as I know no-one has posted all of them. Until now that is.
