Rainbow Canyon - Rollin' In The Rockies 1974

Cleveland Rock 'n' Roll band "Rainbow Canyon" are our next selection folks. Produced by "James Gang" drummer Jimmy Fox, this is vocally a sweet album. Apparently Tommy Bolin plays guitar on "Invisible Song" and would like to know if this version is actually him playing, as it is a pure rarity if it is, because an anthology was released and someone else did the guitar solo on the same track. Anyway there are many good tracks on this album and some are very acceptable. Enjoy.

I mentioned they were a bit pomp rock, but on a second listen they are more pop/rock and some fine guitar and charming songwriting throughout. I hope y'all like them or for that matter, remember them. Enjoy.

The Beatles Cartoons - Season 01 Episode 01

I have had the following 39 episodes of the late 60's TV Cartoon Show for many years now and I just think they are great. They are so ridiculous also that they will have you in fits of laughter from the minute the characters start talking. They don't sound like The Fab Four, but they are so bad, they are great. You can sing-a-long to songs as they encounter strange people and experiences on their mad-cap adventures. I am only posting them as they do contain music and they are rare folks. They were ever only aired in US and I believe they are long out of print. I do see there are still some active torrents, but if you don't like use them, like them or know how to use them, grab these awfully bad but great cartoons here. I guarantee you will be in stitches. So here is the first one in this great collection to get y'all started. Enjoy.

Potter (of Los Angeles' East Side Kids) added drums, left the band and formed "Potter St Cloud", releasing a self-titled album in 1971. This one and the following album have both been kindly donated by XNDER. Nice one X. I like it when dedicated music fans go out their way to give a little back to music bloggers, especially when when they do so much work all over the blogosphere anyway. I may as well say a hearty big thank you to TIN SOLDIER, who recently shared the elusive second album by "Dr. Marigold's Prescription" and went off to India for a well deserved holiday and has sent me more loose singles by the band, most not featured on any of their albums. Gonna take it easy TIN MAN. Please rest up and take another break please. Your body is telling you to!

A Roddus Music Sampler Volume 17 - Ipod Music

A Roddus Music Sampler Volume 16 - Random Rock

Howdy there fellow music lovers, it's time again for another Roddus sampler, and after C. hinted to me the other day about posting one I was thinking of the two or three I have already compiled and have been saving for a rainy day, or when I could find some time to finish preparing them. This sampler is NOT one of those, they will come later. This sampler came about the other night as I was sitting in my favorite spot, doing my favorite thing and counting up how many albums I have on my Hard Drive. With all My CDs ripped to my drive as well as all the Music I bought off E.Music a few years ago, and any other stuff I have collected since then, especially including the many rare and obscure albums C. has found, I have approximately 5117 albums, and quite a few stray tracks floating around as well. This all adds up to 82,357 songs loaded into Itunes on my laptop, which is plugged into my stereo, and soon to be connected by a digital analogue converter. So as I was doing my counting, as I said, and was doing my favorite thing, listening to My Itunes Library on random play, a very cool track came on and captured my attention, that I hadn't heard before (there are many of those) and I thought "that would be a good track for a sampler" and so I just started randomly bringing up songs from across the entire 82,357 and after skipping quite a few that, although ok, were not up to being on a Roddus Sampler. Here is the result of that evenings compiling, another eclectic mix from the Roddus hard drive.

I thought I might take a bit more time here to give you all a bit if info about each track. The Alpaca Bros were an NZ band from the late 80s I think, didn't release a hell of a lot of music, but their song "Hey Man", which is on the same EP as "The Lie", is a classic, sort of Lo-fi NZ indie. "Nefesh" is from the first Masda song book, John Zorn's Masterwork, Kletzma Jazz. Mi-Sex were a very sucessful NZ band from the very early 80s and also did well in Australia, their "Space Race" album was the first LP I ever owned. "But You Don't Care" is one of their slower songs, a sort of rock ballad. "Let Her Dance" is a brilliant pop track from the late 60, unmissable. "I'm A lover" was the song that triggered this Sampler, good 70s rock, and one of Chuntao's posts I forgot I had. The next Track is some very good contempory blues from johnny Copeland. The Expendables were another NZ indie band who, I believe, from my home town of Christchurch. Jay Clarkson(the singer) was also originally in the Playthings, who's totally brilliant "Birds Eye View" single I use to own and I would love to get my hand on a version again. "The Man With No Desire" is excellent late night coming down music and totally awesome. "Cotton Eyed Joe" is a bit of hillbilly music for ya. Next up is some very cool Metal from Mastadon, one of the 2000s best metal acts. Bob Marley's "Redemption song is given excellent treatment by Johnny Cash and Joe Strummer, from the Johnny Cash "Unearthed" box set. "The Raft" is off one of my favorite contempoary NZ bands latest albums, NZ reggae/dub/dance music. System of a Down are totally one of the best hard rock/metal bands on the planet bar none. "Carolines Dream" is another dark NZ indie song and another of my early favorite local songs. Murder By Death, mellow alt country, Don't know much about them, but highly recommended. Another top 60s band, Spirit rank up there with Buffalo Springfield and the West Coast POP Art Experimental Band as my favorite bands from this period. "Mr. Skin" is off their "Twelve dreams Of DR. Sardonicus" from 1970. Blind Willie, I think, is the seminal bottle neck blues player of the 1920s/30s. So much emotion in his playing and singing. Ruth Brown was a young pop shouter from the 50s I think. A cool track from Louis, no more need be said. "Bloodlust" is some more metal from a band I know nothing about, a very good track though. "One Over Eight" is some very good Prog Jazz from late period Softs. And finally, "White person" is a humorous live Improvisation from Zappa and Band. I'm running out of time here and need to get this out, so I'll only make mention of a couple of the rest of this sampler in that The Drive By Truckers Track is their best i have heard and Link Wray is just brilliant, the rest are pretty good too. Enjoy. Roddus

Well hello again folks. Y'all are not going to believe this next story. But this album is on request from Gabe Lapano, lead singer from "The Cascades". Yes he was unable to find an digital recording of his own music. Gabe visited us last week, when I posted "Rhythm Of The Rain" and left comments saying that he was having problems downloading his own rare album in digital format. I went on to explain how to download. Then I wrote him asking if he got it ok and he got back to me saying he got it, but couldn't find this super cool west coast country/pop album "Maybe The Rain Will Fall" from 1969. Well, who I am to disappoint folks, especially a music legend like Gabe yeh. So Gabe, it was wonderful for you to visit us and even more wonderful to put in a REAL RARE REQUEST. Your music is so charming and timeless. Thanks Gabe. And everyone else please enjoy this great band.

The Hometown Band - The Hometown Band 1977

Well folks, now that the excitement of the Winter Olympics, hosted by good ol' Canada, my Canada, is over, I offer another super rarity from the luxuriously romantic "The Hometown Band". I have had it in for some time now , but saved it for just the right moment. And this is it. I did promise more Canadian rarities folks, and I know I should have posted more over the last two weeks, so I hope this makes up for their slowdown recently. Hey, not that I will ever stop posting them mind ! This treasure, if y'all have not guessed has been donated again by our uber-ripper and friend of this blog, uberbelly. We are not worthy Jeff. Many thanks and hope you don't mind me hanging to it longer than usual. So I post this in memory of the Olympic spirit and also the memory of the tragic loss of a young man's life at The Games....
