The Front Lawn - Songs From The Front Lawn 1989

Many of you may have heard of "Flight Of The Concords", A New Zealand duo who combined music and comedy in their stage show and then went on to so a TV show based on their stage act. This is not something new to NZ. There were others before who pioneered this type of thing here in Godzone. An early example would be "BLERTA", who also made some pretty wacky stuff for TV on top of the exellent music they made. Their album was FIRST posted here on RARE MP3 also. During the 90's another example was formed by a talented fellow called Don McGlashan. They called themselves "The Front Lawn" and they toured NZ in a large car covered in astroturf of some sort. The Front Lawn realesed two exellent albums of off kilter indie type pop to moderate sucess at home. Here is their first "Songs From The Front Lawn" Enjoy. Roddus

Throbbing Gristle - 24 Hours Of Throbbing Gristle 2003

Very early in my music education, I was introduced to "Throbbing Gristle" via the local college radio station. TG were the creators of what is now called Industrial Music, although not the first to create such noise, they are probably one of the most influencial groups to come out of England in the late 70s/early 80s. Industrial music is a very apt label for their music and I am still at a loss as to why I actuially like this music. Their live music is a cacophony of feedback, tape loops, electronic sounds and dark lyrics, but they had a magic about them that made this music listenable and enjoyable to some of us, any one else trying to do what they did would probably sound total crap. In the early 80s, they released a set of tapes called "24 Hours Of Throbbing Gristle". 24 hour long cassettes of a large proportion of their live concerts between 1976 to 1980. After a few years this set of cassettes became very rare and the stuff of legend, with people looking, but finding only single copies of the tapes or believing that they didn't actually exist (The Mythical 24 Hours of Throbbing Gristle). I, myself had absolutely no idea of it's existence until I read a 5 Star Review in the Uncut magazine of the 24 CD boxset. On to Amazon.com I went and there it was, selling for something like $350 US dollars, that was over $500 in my money in 2003. Being a limited edition I took the plunge and ordered it, plunging my credit card into more debt and waiting in anticipation for its arrival half way round the world. I'm glad to say that my money was not wasted and I thoroughly enjoyed every second of the 24 hours (although not in one sitting). Best listened to on good headphone very loud. This masterpeice is now already quite rare, being a limited addition, and is currently selling for over $800 US dollars on Amazon, and i saw another copy for $1300 US dollars. So now, RARE MP3, with the blessing of Chuntao, and the dedication of Roddus, will be bringing to your quivering ears each of the "24 Hours Of Throbbing Gristle. Enjoy. Masters Of Reality - Masters Of Reality 1988

The "Masters Of Reality" are one of those late 80s Led Zep/Sabbath influenced rock bands, who could also be compared to "The Cult". This is their debut album from 1988, and it is an exceptional LP, one of the greatest rock albums never to make the all time greatest lists. This post gives the original running order of the tracks as they were originally released on vinyl. The 1990 CD issue had a different track running order and a bonus track not on the original. Both versions are pretty hard to come by. This album is not to be missed, get it HERE and enjoy up loud. Roddus.

Titanic - Eye Of The Hurricane 1979

Up next is another real treat. This time from Norwegian rock band "Titanic". They were around for 10 years releasing a handful of excellent records. Some of their albums have been posted on other blogs, but not this one "Eye Of The Hurricane" and one other which I will do soon. Maybe because it is the rarest of their work, I dunno. It appeared on robotsforronnie blog wishlist until it was updated and hasn't been posted yet. So here is a stonking album folks and I am going to dedicate this one to mandustrian who left some real cool philosophical comments recently, about how the ear picks things up and how it should be heard. And coz music isn't a perfect science, we have to make comprimises as that is what being human is all about. Check out the first track also. It rox!!!

Headband - Happen Out 1971

Formerly called "The Bluesbreakers", this New Zealand outfit "Headband" were heavily influenced by John Mayall. They are not to be confused with the Australian band called "Headband" who did "A Song For Tooley" album. However that is a very good album also. So if you fancy a real very cool blues rock album, I suggest this one folks. This is, well was, on request from Roddus a while back and did test my patience in tracking it down. But I got there in the end. Hope y'all enjoy "Happen Out". And for any of you fellow music collector's have this bands second album "Rock Garden", I would love to hear from ya.

Ixt Adux - Brainstorm 1982

Drum roll ... Now a very special present for y'all. Another one of those rarest albums in the whole wide world folks. "Brainstorm" was released in 1982 on private label -Madam X Records MAX 001 - by prog rock band "Ixt Adux". The guitars on this are excellent and though some of production could be marginally better, this is a top notch album that only collector's will be impressed by. In my opinion, this is not as intense as "Automatic Fine Tuning", it certainly has its moments. They have been compared to "King Crimson" and although that is true to an extent, these guys have their own sense of flair and fashion at the time. This has been on request from Mauri 'The Doc' since just before Christmas, who also requested the oz-some "Oz Knozz" which I also posted recently.

VA - Out From The Cold 1964-72

Here is the second and last volume of 60/70s New Zealand music. This compilation is a lot stronger in the 70's part with stand out tracks like "Wild About You" by "Gutbucket", which is a stunning slow blues track, and both their songs, included here, are the only ones they ever recorded. Also Ticket's "Highway Of Love" is also a classic example of 70s NZ Jazz Rock. And of course "Good Morning Mr Rock N Roll" by "Headband" is another NZ classic. So get "Out From The Cold", put your feet up, turn this up loud and enjoy. Roddus.
