Very early in my music education, I was introduced to "Throbbing Gristle" via the local college radio station. TG were the creators of what is now called Industrial Music, although not the first to create such noise, they are probably one of the most influencial groups to come out of England in the late 70s/early 80s. Industrial music is a very apt label for their music and I am still at a loss as to why I actuially like this music. Their live music is a cacophony of feedback, tape loops, electronic sounds and dark lyrics, but they had a magic about them that made this music listenable and enjoyable to some of us, any one else trying to do what they did would probably sound total crap. In the early 80s, they released a set of tapes called "24 Hours Of Throbbing Gristle". 24 hour long cassettes of a large proportion of their live concerts between 1976 to 1980. After a few years this set of cassettes became very rare and the stuff of legend, with people looking, but finding only single copies of the tapes or believing that they didn't actually exist (The Mythical 24 Hours of Throbbing Gristle). I, myself had absolutely no idea of it's existence until I read a 5 Star Review in the Uncut magazine of the 24 CD boxset. On to Amazon.com I went and there it was, selling for something like $350 US dollars, that was over $500 in my money in 2003. Being a limited edition I took the plunge and ordered it, plunging my credit card into more debt and waiting in anticipation for its arrival half way round the world. I'm glad to say that my money was not wasted and I thoroughly enjoyed every second of the 24 hours (although not in one sitting). Best listened to on good headphone very loud. This masterpeice is now already quite rare, being a limited addition, and is currently selling for over $800 US dollars on Amazon, and i saw another copy for $1300 US dollars. So now, RARE MP3, with the blessing of Chuntao, and the dedication of Roddus, will be bringing to your quivering ears each of the "24 Hours Of Throbbing Gristle. Enjoy. G'day Roddus,
You have really excelled yourself here my friend. This is not a MEGA POST. It is "THE" post of all blogland. Trust me. Your work is unrivalled, well apart from mine. We make a very good team and I know the amount of work you have done recently to realize this moment.
I only posted 2 pictures from Artwork so that evryone can find out on their own the rest of the collector's artwork. The quality of your scans are super also.
I hope many of my readers, old & new, appreciate this and leave many, many, may comments so you can go 'shucks'
All I can say is this some collection Roddus :)))
Your blogging companion
C.
Dear C.
Thank you for your comments and for posting this Mega Post, I was gonna say for my next trick I will post "Merzbow - Merzbox" A 50 Cd extravaganza of Japanese Noise, but alas , somebody has already done it.
http://un-inviernocongelado.blogspot.com/2008/07/merzbow-merzbox-2000.html
So that makes this the second "The" Post in all blogland ( bugger)
not to mention that i don't actuially have a copy of Merzbox any how, but I did have it on my ipod once downloaded from a torrent. But it was a bit too extream even for my tastes.
Cheers
Roddus

Hi Titus,

Yes I have just aquired a 1T external drive myself just to make room for all the awesome stuff that Chuntao keeps posting.
Roddus
hey man thanks for posting this up. i was excited about going to see them at heaven in june before, but now even more! cheers.
hey anon, it is very unlikely that TG will come down to my part of the world, so let us know how it went dude.
Roddus
ok roddus, will do. looking at the sets they've been doing in the u.s. should be great, hamburger lady, very friendly. listening to 24 hrs is the perfect preparation! thanks again. john (aka anon)
cool john, lookinh foeward to hearing all abiut it.
Roddus
Excellent.
Many thanks for sharing.
Yes, comes as no surprise to me the sets fetch a lot of money, they were expensive at the time.
I know someone who bought the original box of cassettes around 1980/81(?), and he paid 100 quid for them(a VERY good week or so's wages in those days)
So that 350 dollars for the CDs is probably a fair price, really!
I went to a couple of these gigs actually, and they were like nothing else that was happening at the time.
The Cryptic One gig was particularly awesome.
First time I saw them (or really heard anything by them) when I was 15, and I just went up on my own, my rubbish mates opting out at the last minute to go to The Marquee to see someone or other.
It was in a tiny crypt in the backstreets of Paddington, took me bloody ages to find.
Still one of the best gigs I've ever been to, it was a stellar line up that night: TG, The Normal and Robert Rental, Cabaret Voltaire and Metabolist.
I remember there were TV sets everywhere (this was pre-home video) playing random cut-up visuals, and there was no music between the bands, just cut-up recordings of news broadcasts and police radio and stuff.
Glad I got there early, TG, despite being the headline band, came on first, and the whole thing went on until 2 am or something which was pretty darn late in those days.
That also meant I had to walk home from one side of London to the other, there being no such thing as night buses in those days, either.
Think I got home about 3 hours later, exhausted, but well satisfied that it was worth all the trouble!
I'll look forward to hearing these again, I remember The Factory IRCD20 was my favourite one at the time.
I loved that intro of Weapon Training and probably the definitive version of See You Are.
Thanks once again for sharing, cheers! :-)
Hi Mogadonia, It was exciting to read your comments, this is what the comments section is all about for Me. Thank you very much for Sharing your experiences in seeing TG in your youth. I must say that You were certainly a keen man to go see something like that when only 15. you were obviously far more hip than your mates. its not often you get to relive a gig on Cd :)
Cheers
Roddus
Amazing post! Never thought I'd get to hear all of this. Thanks so much! I too am going to see them in June..
hey anon, I would love to hear how the gig goes for you as well and thanks for you comments.
Roddus
Thanks for the post!
I own a lot of TG stuff myself but I have never had the chance to purchase this box.
So now I have the chance to listen to a lot of gems I always wanted to have!
Thanks again!
thanks very much for this one, Roddus. this is my first download and first time in this site. Decided to get an easy-share account so i can download this stuff click-click-click and cut the waiting time.
This is absolutely the most brilliant post.
I really thought I would never hear this outstanding boxed set. Now, thanks to you, I can. I am forever in your debt.
hey John,
No problem
Glad you are impressed, This post is proving to be far more popular than i ever thought it would.
Roddus
Have you got and read "Wreckers of Civilisation" by Simon Ford? I do and have.
i was devastated to find a copy online for $1200 but now i am forevber in your debt
thankyou so much
Thanks for this amazing post. Never thought I would ever see it.
Hours of interesting listening to start now.
Very good work!
Like so many have already mentioned, I never thought I'd hear this set!
Thanks so much-
What a great way to start off the weekend!
Wow, I don't really know what to say other than thank you. This is something I would love to own, but could never afford, so I really appreciate you sharing. When I was a teenager, my older sister had this friend who got me into TG and all sorts of other great stuff. I remember him scraping together money to buy these cassettes a couple at a time. We'd drive to the store, get them and then blast them in the car on the way home. Such great memories. Thanks again.
I have only ever heard a few of these gigs before and so would like to say a massive "thank you" for your kind gesture of uploading the full boxed set. You've given many fans a great chance to enjoy these TG sets and massive kudos to you as a result.
Cari Saluti.

This is great. I really want to hear the Northampton Guild Hall as I was there. What I have is a Text document. What am I doing wrong?
Anon,
I am not sure what you are doing wrong, I just checked the link and it still takes us to a 72M RAR. file to download. This will get you the music.
It's saved as a .RAR file, so you either need 7-ZIP, WinRAR, or another such program to open it.
IRCD19 has been deleted ?!?!?!
I'm working my way though these and finding them fascinating and much better and more listenable than I'd have imagined. I'd love to see IRCD 19 reposted.
