Meal Ticket - Code Of The Road 1977

Next up on Anonymous request for a while now, is 70's country rock group "Meal Ticket". They are rather rare and have lovely lyrics, beautiful piano work and a good sense of rhythm. I couldn't find much info on them, but I hear they are very highly sought after folks. "Code Of The Road" is their debut album from 1977. And another one crossed off someone's wishlist. This is a vinyl rip and to my knowledge has never been released on CD.

i shall give these folks a shot...this genre got me thinking of another rare OUT-OF-PRINT CD-- a VERY GOOD album: SWEET MOMENTS WITH THE BLUE VELVET BAND
HERE'S A REVIEW
5.0 out of 5 stars
"Perhaps the Greatest Bluegrass LP Ever Recorded...
I searched for years until I found a vinyl copy of this LP and consider it one of the main reasons I still own a turntable. The album was a bluegrass supergroup of young (at the time) musicians and influenced almost every musician who heard it. One album, that's all, and then they were gone their own ways. But what a legacy they left." -WPD (Michigan)

thanks for all yr work

I am sorry Anon from Oslo,

But unfortunately you are not the Anon who requested this album. They did leave a name and a forwarding email, and are not from Scandinavia. But they do not want to be named. Nice try. But do enjoy the album anyway Smarty Pants Anon.

Yes Robert,

You are the Anonymous party who I refer to in this post. Thank you for revealing yourself, but I was only respecting your wishes. But it seems that even those who remain Anonymous still get their identity taken over by complete idiots, taking credit for something that is nothing to do with them.

Oh well. It was my pleasure Robert and it was quite a hard find also. Yes it has not been released on CD and hope that this vinyl rip caters for your needs at this time.

Many thanks for the challenge and will continue to work hard fro others on your wishlist my friend.

Speak soon

hiya again,
i am really sorry if i jumped on someones toes here about who asked for this album about a year ago. it was not intended in any way. i asked on a blog (might have been "askhasians" or something like that) about him having the 3 martin simpson & co meal ticket lp's. cause they were never released on cd and way back in the mid 70's i had the opportunity to watch them twice at a venue/pub close to london and once in the midlands - fine stuff they did. sorry and still anonymous from oslo. cheers

ah - and btw. go to emule and fetch all 3 of these elusive meal tickets. they are in 320 and available without anyone claiming copyright or whatever is the background for this discussion.
smarty pants from oslo again. still cheers my friends.

Hey Anon from Oslo,

Thank you for getting back to me. I wasn't being rude and understand that you thought I had seen the request somewhere else on another blog. And perhaps seen that it was an anonymous request. I hope that you were not offended and apologize myself for any misunderstanding. Sorry you had to wait so long to find it and I guess you and the requester Robert have one good thing in common. The same great tatse for rare music.

Therefore thanks for clearing that matter up and I thank you also for pointing me in the right direction also and your honesty and see what I can do.

If you have more rare requests that have not been posted yet, drop me a line Oslo Anon ;]

Oki doki

Chow for now

At last I've been able to get all the Meal Ticket albums again. They were a brilliant live band back in the 70s. Saw them loads of times in London, and I don't think I've ever been blown away as much. I've tried in vain for years to get cds of these guys. Incidently, a musical based on their music is about to be premièred: http://www.laughingdaughter.com/HOME.html Thanks again for this. Steve

Hi! Thanks for the Meal Ticket albums. I knew the singer Rick Jones. He is/was Canadian and used to record on Argo records (and some BBC as he presented Play School). Meal Ticket were a good band. I saw them at Dingwalls Camden Lock. Generally I'd like to say thank you for all the hard work that is put in to find the albums and upload them for us to enjoy. Much appreciated.

Well after reading so many glowing reports of this band the least I can do is grab a copy myself. Thanks to those who both requested and those who hosted it here. I really like this site ! cheers.....JeffH

The track 'Out of the Blue' is one of the finest love songs written. Could never understand how it didn't become a 'hit' and then a standard of radio.Oh well no accounting for taste from the general population.

I was also a regular at Meal Ticket gigs in Dingwalls around 1977/78 and as well as various live punk bands of the time, this was my favourite live gig (I was very open and eclectic in musical tastes, although my beard went down better at Meal ticket gigs than at punk ones - funny that!).

Thanks for the music and the nostalgia.

I'd love to know who the 'anonymous' is who know Rick that well - I too knew him in 1974 - in fact he wrote a song for our band at the time! - ah - the days when I had hair!!!!

But the download no longer seems to work!

Bugger, was looking forward to hearing Man from Mexico etc again ........

Ah - still sounds just as great 34 years on! Listened to them all the time when I was at art school in the late 70's - happy days, if I could remember them.... Have now passed this Code of the Road MP3 to my 25 year old son. "Cool album, Dad" pretty much says it all !

Been looking for ages for a song called 'Mountain Air' which I thought I had as a 10" single back in '78 - and couldn't find any reference to it anywhere. No wonder ... it was actually 'The Man From Mexico' which, if I'm any judge, is the most loved song on the album. Thank you - you've made an old man very happy!
