Henry Priestman - The Chronicles Of Modern Life 2008

I was watching Breakfast TV last week and ex-The Christians guy "Henry Priestman" appeared on the show. I was totally captivated with a short intro of his new solo track, that I had to get this album. Easy-peasy. I queued up 3 downloads (one being a torrent) and started listening to them one by one as I got them. Well, I was very impressed with this guy. This album has a post-punk protest folk appeal about it. The songs are all well-written, political in part, and some are tongue-in-cheek, but all have a moral point to make. Released last year, "The Chronicles Of Modern Life" was released on 'Stiff Records' and Our Henry is the oldest person to be signed by this cult record label. So sit back and enjoy what is somewhat of a rarity folks, as this album is fetching $75 in places. So if you wanna hear a real hidden gem folks get this here or a torrent site if you desire.

Oh yes C, you pinpoint this album's qualities in your writing. I've kept this one in my player since I got it, I like the lyrics and the perspectives (Old; Heart; Punk Wars) and I'm grateful for your posting, wouldn't have had a chance of hearing it otherwise. Hope Mr. Priestman is happy too.

Hey Leo,

Thank you for gracing us again with your presence ;]

Glad Our Henry hit the mark my friend. Wouldn't have known about it if I hadn't switched on TV that morning before I got round to some household chores :( and paying some bills etc.

I really like this album also. Something very ironic about it.

Nice one Leo

So I finally loaded this onto my ipod this week and have listened to it several times over the last few days along with several other very cool albums from various places.

I might be a decade younger than Henry but i can relate to so much of what he is singing about, although i am not as cheerful a grumpy old man as Henry is. The punk wars made me laugh and idiot i can relate to totally(plenty of them in my country as well, many of them run our country).
One song that kept catching my attention though was "Suffice To Say". It kept nagging at me that i had heard it before but i couldn't put my finger on the original. Tonight i could clearly hear the original in my head, but I still could't Identify who it was. After some digging on my computer, cause i knew I had it some where, I found it on a compilation box set of 70s punk. So I did know the song ,but I didn't know the name of The Yachts. It turns out that our man was in the Yachts and this was their first single, and very exellent it is too.
I found their album too and will check it out soon.
It also turns out our man H. Was also in a band Called It's Immaterial who released an album called "Life's hard And Then you Die" which got very good review on allmusic, so I am gonna check it out also .

My heart just warms from his...earnestness (is that a word?).

Leo

p.s. R: one decade? not two? d.s.

So you got round to listening Our Henry then Roddus. Good Thanks for giving him a try. I thought he would appeal to your punk days. His songs are all very good, well-written and make you laugh and think at the same time.

Thanks for finding out more info on that track and the fact he was in another band called The Yachts & It's Immaterial. ;]

Good of you to make some decent on this R. and look forward into listening more of his older material.

Hey Leo,

I checked out the youtube video with Henry. It wasn't that one I seen. I think it was bbc breakfast one, but very similar format none the less where he was plugging his new stuff and did a stint on the couch on his own with his acoustic guitar.

Glad you enjoyed this Leo and appreciate your extra input here also.

Chow for now
