Whiskey Howl - Whiskey Howl 1972

Now there is some debate whether Da Fingermeister actually meant me to post some "Whisky Hollow" or this other Canadian band "Whiskey Howl". It doesn't really matter, as even though one is country rock and this one is blues, I enjoyed liaising with "Whisky Hollow" and indeed tracking down this eponymous sole self-titled album also. They are both very good in their own right and I guess this is the purpose of this blog; to give you rare music, that in part, you haven't heard before. Well anyway, this album is an iconic piece of music history and is a must for anyone wanting to listen to a masterpiece. This album has been described as ".. driving harmonica blues." Grab this gem here again folks.

~There is a special place in heaven for generous blogger-sharers I have no doubt. For the love of music and keeping unheralded musicians' works in the public sphere, it is a great friendly and even historical service. The music of the future shall improve because young aficianados from ANYwhere can sample rarities way from left field that may expand their horizons and inspiration immeasurably!!
[I recall reading on rateyourmusic of some slovenian teen whose favourite groups were many the same as mine---a total 60s psych-pop-rock-folk nut who lived through the era...due to blog-sharing I dont doubt ...now that's amazing] + Here's to your dedication and upbeat manner!

sluggo,

Thanks very much. I love the word Canuck, it's real cool not derogatory at all. Glad you enjoyed this blues album, but I recommend you download it again. I'm sorry but this copy isn't album wrapped and is single tracks at 256.If you prefer not to that's fine. Only a suggestion.

Thanks for your thumbs up sluggo dude

ge,

Normally blogs to heaven, the great gig in the sky and that normally happens when you publish too much copyrighted material and Google/Blogger shuts you down. But hey let's not split hairs here, I know what you mean.

Well I take a curtsy ge and thank you for your inspiration and moral support. You obviously know your music better than me, so my next 60's post will be dedicated to you without even requesting it my friend. The band I have in mind are more rarer than finding a hyperdermic needle in a haystack.
I also have a comilation album where one of their tracks isn't even on their album. Now I waited 8 hours the other week to get that one song in oder to finish off that compilation.

So stay tuned ge.

And many thanks again for your kind comments

Don't know if it's a territorial problem (I'm in Europe) but M-soft I-net Explorer says 'not available'. Do me a favour and try it yourself?

Leo,

You can't get those 4 bonus tracks right? But you got the posts alright? Yeh? If that is the case I will add those separate bonus tracks for you. Ok. Leave that with me.

It must be your ISP that is blocking them.

I'd forgotten all about this band, enjoying the hell out of hearing this. A question if you don't mind: the tracks sound almost flawless except for some glitches in track two. Is this from the source, or did I get some hiccups in the download? Thanks once again.

I was very pleased with the download. Wish there was more by them. Pretty good bluesy-rock sound.

Do we have any idea where this mp3 version of the albums originates? If it sounds like a reasonably clean album transfer the odds are good it's one I did a few years back for a couple of folks.

SO glad to see this recording and a couple of other Canadian blues and rock bands up here. Just wild.

Hello

Wiskey Howl was one of my first uploads back a few years ago when I started the BLOG which was for only Canadian Blues Music and finely got around to put the lp to cassette then on the Hard Drive to burn to Cd for myself and then put in MP3 format which I uploaded and put up on my site. It's to BAD THAT THEY DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO PUT MORE MUSIC OUT...

Can't log in?

Hey folks!
Dave Morrison here!
I am the guy in the middle on the Album Cover. I played guitars and vocals. The album has been rereleased by EMI and is available on CD from http://www.pacemaker.cd/ or HMV. Thanks for all the interest and kind words.
As it turns out, I was just today, talking to a filmmaker about a documentary on the band. There is a fair amount of other recordings. One bit of trivia..... The late John Witmer and I wrote "Jesse's Song" on our front porch, right after his first son was born. We recorded it in live in-studio for the album. The only over-dub being the "boot-tapping".

Hey Dave Morrison - I grew up in Toronto and remember the band well and fondly. I first heard the band at the CNE in Aug. '69 in a small venue - they were brand new and still looked like clean-cut high-schoolers (as was I then). But, they sounded great. That was when Peter Boyko was the guitarist, I believe. .Just curious as to whatever became of him - I recall that he was a bit of a blues shredder - in the Alvin Lee style. A series of personnel changes took place over the next several years, I recall - but all players who passed through WH were great, yourself included. Delighted CD is out - a "must have" IMHO.
