Wow, what a list, I don't mean to brag but i recon that I own or have owned in the past about 335 of these albums listed.and i am familiar with many more.

I have the book "1001 Albums To hear before you Die", which I think is a better list and I have an even higher ratio of albums from that one.

I also have the rolling stone "5oo best albums" list somewhere

Of Course there are many, many classics in this list ,but there are of course plenty of really great albums, better than some of the ones on this list, that I could include here, especially some of the wonderful rare recordings that you have been posting here.

Roddus,

Flattery will get you everywhere hehe. Yes I posted this list some months ago but it got deleted by Blogger? Maybe they had peomitions that I was going to link to evry album in the list. And hey they would have been right.

C.

PS Roddus, if you have those lists at hand and don't need to type them or give me the link I will have a look at them also.

Waoow MichaelE,

You are really on the ball there. But what about some of my albums shouldn't some of them be on the list. Automatic Fine Tuning should be in the top 100 at least...

Cheers MichaelE

Ok lists, here is a list for ya, of some of my personal favorite albums.
Now there are plenty of these best of list out there and I am finding that they are pretty predictable. Of course that’s not surprising because a large percentage of the albums that keep turning up on these lists are, of course, classics, and deserve to be there. But, of course, most of them are the big sellers, with a few critically acclaimed classics that didn’t sell so well included because they also deserve to be there.
Now as I said, I have many of the albums in the list you posted, as you would expect, so this list I want to make is of the lesser known of my favorites. There will still be some in my list that are in the big list, but these are just too good not to be here in my list. I am going to avoid, in this list, most of the big guns, because they are so obvious. So there will be no Zep, Sabbath, Stones, Beatles, U2, Doors, etc… Also this list in not in any particular order, and it is not definitive as I’m sure to have forgotten something from my large collection. I am just listing the ones that occur to me now. So here goes The Roddus Alternative (sort of) top 100

hello again. as with roddus i have the 1001 albums you must hear before you die, the rolling stone top 500 album list and a great book called defining moments in music. as all lists are subjective you take them with a grain of salt. what might be good to you someone else may abhor.

here is a link to the 1001 albums on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1001_Albums_You_Must_Hear_Before_You_Die

and the rolling stone list

a top 100 list from time magazine

and a cool list of best-selling albums worldwide

Obviously many of these are also dodgy territory insofar as posting them, but they are very good reference lists none the less.

And hey every1 else who may read this feel free to add to these.

Cool

Many thanx again ;]

Roddus,

Thanks for your Top 100 album list. Good to see a couple of my posts on it. Nice one. Was going to savor this info all to myself.

Cool.

I remember a 1993 Virgin list of the 100 most influential albums of all time - published in two parts, alas I read only one. But it was the one up my alley. Paranoid by Black Sabbath was there, which was one I definitely agree with. But to see it so low on this top 1000 list breaks me 'art.

Of course I have my biases, but I'm glad to see the Beatle's Revolver beat out Sgt. Pepper's. Historical importance aside, I think track for track it's one of their WORST albums. The good tracks are absolute classics, the rest are piffle.

I was disappointed to see The Wall so high up. But I was so pleased to see the band Spirit in the list. They deserved much more success than they got.

I could go on and on but I will sign off here with one last comment - as time goes by, the worse the music making these lists will get imho. But like I said, I have my biases. Thanx for posting tho!

Arthur in Trinidad.
