Mantis - Mantis 1973

Obscure Canadian rock band "Mantis" released this eponymous debut album in 1973. It brings together a rather edgy collection of pop/rock, giving it an interesting synth sound in part. I rather like it and it is definitely worth a listen. There isn't much info on this band, except that it was released on 'Sweet Plum' Records. I hope you enjoy it folks.

Hey Roddus , what ya say in NZ coz it's g'day in Austra-alya m8, Is it the same ?

Anyway :) hello again. I agree with you to some extebt. I have head it 3/4 times now and it was a bit like t-Bone Burnett (not in the sense of style), but after you listen to it it grows on you then you can't stop thinking about a couple of those well written & well played tracks.

It's my pleasure Roddus to share them with someone who appreciates some cool music.

PS I have found another album which I think you will love. No names as yet, but You are virtually the top of my list after I top up on some of my discographies. ok m8.

I mean it's hard to satisfy the whole world at once. The joys hehe

laters dude.

Caio Vito,

Thankx again for dropping. Your English is better than my Italian - bella , bella ;]

I'm sorry to hear this one is only good not excellent. Like I said on other comments, you need to listen to it a few times and it will grow on you. Trust me. Some albums are like that.

Anyway I hope the 'Blueset' one hits the mark Vito.

Chow for now

Roddus, keep them mowing blades sharp

I don't always know what I'll like, so good posts and good comments are invaluable

When I checked "what is this?" it turned out to be Jane III, so I know what you mean.

One of my favorites shirts says "Mantis" on it and has two praying mantis's with crossed arms making the "M". I never knew what it was but always figured it was an old prog band. I got it from a thrift store in Philadelphia probably 15 or more years ago and have worn it until it is falling apart. It must have been this band. Fantastic! Thanks for this post!

Brian,

I love when you take years to make a connection. My brother had a 'Loadsamoney' t-shirt and he didn't know that it was Harry Enfield hehe

Hope you enjoyed the show and thanks for your comments and excellent story. Shame your t-shirt isn't in better condition. It is a rarity in itself you know.

Myself and Mark Bajona (guitarist from Mantis) have played together many times and he also appears on our 1996 release, "Shadows On The Wall" by Bent Wind. He does an acoustic, one take improvisation on the song, 'When I Face Tonight'. Although he is from Toronto, the rest of the Mantis band was from Montreal. --- Marty Roth (original member) Bent Wind Need more info? contact me from my website at www.bentwind.com

Yes i am the guitarist from mantis. My name is Mark Bajona and i was 18 or 19 when i recorded eyes of fire with the band. Another song was called fred and that too had a classical feel to it. Anyways im 56 now and its nice to look back on my work and brings back a time when all i had to do was give you a musical rush.

Just listening to Island Suite from the album turn onto musc by Mantis, at times it seems a cross between santana & Deep purple Mk1, but stands up well on its own, I love It, I look forward to hearing this one, many thanks.
