Donovan - There Are No Roads (Open Road Sessions) 1970

"There Are No Roads" by the masterful 'Donovan' are the lost recordings that went on to what we probably know and aspire to acquire as the "Open Road Sessions". This is a truly wonderful recording containing some beautiful rarities. This album is wrapped and a low bit-rate, but there is no loss in quality after some 38 years. And this goes out to Christo O'Gordo who had this album penned as his elusive 'Holy Grail' until recently and was most kind indeed when he decided to share it with us. You are too kind Christo. Thank you.

Lou,

This is a very beautiful album. I don't have to say that coz I know you will agree. If you have a tear in your eye after the first 20 minutes my job is done .

Seems Donovan made a reissue from his 72 album Brother Sun , Sister Moon , but it is only available from itunes.. Is there a chance it will ever appear here ?

There certainly is Anon. It has been done. However it would have been nice to leave a nickname so that I could have included it in the post. Anyways this beautiful soundtrack/ost has been posted for you and everyone else's enjoyment.

These Open Road Sessions do not have one single song from the album of that name from 1970 or is it me that I don’t recognise them?
Certainly the titles are all different and I admit I’m not a huge fan of Donovan’s later stuff.
Interesting recordings for fans, with varying quality in true bootleg fashion….some good ones, I like the upbeat “Spaceship Earth”.
Personally anything before Open Road is better, with the 1966-68 period the real peak of his recorded career.
Unfortunately due to legal problems with labels and all that kind of crap, Don had several of his best records not released or delayed in the UK, most notably the “Sunshine Superman” LP, that instead of anticipating new trends it came off as if Don was just jumping on the psychedelic bandwagon…

Donovan has a lot of good albums, but I must admit ;) , Open Road is my favourite one. I also like its direct sound, drums, bass, etc. sounding clear, crispy and honest.
MANY thanks to you and to Mr. Gordo for making this boot available.
Best Regards,

Far Out! I saw Donovan when in '70. He did an unscheduled set at the Bath Festival while Zappa waited for his gear to arrive. This album -which I didn't know eisted - should be right around that time.
