This next band "Blerta", an acronym meaning "Bruno Lawrence Electric Revelation and Traveling Apparition", from New Zealand were a mad and rather talented bunch of hippies that put on theatrical and musical shows around Australasia in the early 70's. They were picked up by the networks and a documentary was made to highlight their mad-cap world. "The Return Trip" is the Soundtrack to this crazy adventure, but in essence is a compilation of their first 3 albums, which are very rare indeed. There are many tongue-in-cheek tracks, especially 10", which will keep most of the male population chortling for a while and us females dreaming. You wish. So let "Blerta" take you on a magical, trippy ride packed with fun and raw talent. This one goes out to Roddus. Your up my friend. And it was a pleasure.

Er, Yeah, G'Day,
Well well, I am suprised you found this to post, I am very impressed with your reserch skills. I stumbled across this Cd in a department store several years ago and snapped it up as I had heard about them ,but Am too young to have experienced them first hand.I haven't seen the film, but I remembered dance all around the world, from the radio from when I was a kid and also remembered seeing a short clip of Bruno Laurence madly drumming to the song Drugs.
Bruno Laurence is a ledgend in NZ, as well as a musician he was a talented actor and starred in some very cool local movies, the best of which was the quiet earth. He had a habit of doing full nude scenes in his films.
He was also in another band called the Quincy Conserve, among other bands, who were shit hot and put out 5 albums berween 68 and 75.
Sadley Bruno Left us in 95, passing at a realitivly young age.
Enjoy this music, I certainly do.

Oh and yeah, 10" is average for NZ male
G'Day Roddus, :]
When you gave me those band names recently in an unpublished comments, I wasn't sure whether you were just recommending me them or subtly giving me requests. So when I dug deeper, I struggled to find anything as they weren't on any blogs. One had an expired R/S link. But now I know they were really requests, probably except this one as you already have the rather hard to find original CD and no-one had posted it either.
So thank you for that as I thought they were just top tips after our discussions re "Ellis". (Can you tell me that other one re ellis- it's in another thread somewhere pleaase)
Anyway I thought this was an excellent album and all the Aussies & Kiwis are gonna love this rarity. There is fun, joy, sadenss . It goes thru the whole gamut of emotions. Above all, I was amazed to find it. Well you actually found it for me Roddus. ;] As I never heard of them. Might have got round to them eventually mind.
Many thanks again friend for your input

PS Oh Roddus dear boy you are laying it on thick with that old chestnut :)))
Ok, sorry Lets clear this up.
In my original post on the Airlord Album I was making recommendations for other NZ bands from that era that I have heard or I own on CD.
That Also goes for the Ellis album which I brought from Amazon.com last year, after looking for it for 10 years since I sold my vinyl copy.
But I am impressed that you found Ellis and Blerta and shared them with a wider audience, as they deserve to be heard.
Now, not all of the bands I mentiones I have in My collection and so My request is if you coud Please find the Underdogs album - Blues Band And Beyond. Chrisgoesrock has it on his blog but the link dosn't work and he hasn't answered my request to repost it, as you know. I have tried to find it and did come acrodd it on another blog but again the link was broken.(Ezhevika Fields)
Two Albums By Ticket, Which are very good, I also Found on Ezhevika flelds.
I have on Cd best of compilations by very good NZ bands "Headband" and "The Quincey Conserve", who I mentioned yesterday, 2 various artists compilations of NZ music from 65-74 Called "Out From The Cold" and Get The Picture", which are very hard to find now and also three "Human Instinct" CDs,"Burning Up Years", Pins Init" and "Stoned guitars",The Last one of which is on chrisgoes rocks.
If you wanted to post any of these CDs on your blog to share I could be willing to help but I don't know how to upload them.
Cheers
Roddus
Finally got to see the DVD of this last night, found it at the local video rental shop.
it was pretty crazy, and some of it was low quality film, but thats to be expected from way back then as NZ didn't have a film industry at all.
It was pretty Monty Python like in places and it had its good moments. the highlights ,of course, were the music clips, and seeing Fred Dagg, a Local comic hero from the early 70s.

Was very excited to see this. Haven't heard most of these since the '70's. BUT the link seems to be dead. Or maybe I'm doing it wrong...this being my first visit to your GREAT blog.
Too bad "Auntie Ada" Blerta's best (and weirdest) single isn't on here.
Lead singer Corben Simpson is worth seeking out also.
found this link to more about Blerta.

Hey Chuntao.
Thanks for posting Blerta. I had heard a few of their tracks and have been keen to add to what I had heard. Bruno Lawrence ended up being better known "across the ditch" (in Australia) as an actor, starring in the outstanding Aussie TV comedy Frontline.
Thought this ablum was a little patchy, but having read up on what the band were about at the time I suspect that some of the songs have that "you just had to be there" feel.
