Paul Collins' Beat - The Beat 1979

"The Beat" was the debut album by power pop band "Paul Collins' Beat" or sometimes called "The Beat" is in a word awesome. Every track on this album is quality. I have listened to it more times than I can remember in the last week and it just makes me wanna listen some more. The songs are well written, well sung and well played. A must. And don't be fooled coz it says power pop. It totally rocks folks. This is on request for Stymie for some time now. I tell you this wasn't an easy find either. Happy festivities in Indiana my friend.

Hi Newman,

Thanks for stopping by again. Yes I agree 'The Beat' is excellent.

Also I haven't forgot about you. I have tracked down those 3 songs from US 'Ferry Cross The Mersey' album. I can rip them to disc in line with album or just post them on their own. Let me know what you want me to do.

And I can tell you those were harder to find than a full album ;]

Happy holidays

Speak soon Newman

Newman,

I am upping a collection of Ferry Cross The Mersey tracks as I write & have included 3 rare tracks from the US version of the soundtrack in a subfolder. Hope this meets your merits & all the best in the New Year.

Just found your blog and already got the second Pau; Collins hoping you had the first and BLAM! here it is. I had to unload about 150,000 records at once back in1993 and have been reassembling whatever I could find where ever and I had only been able to find a bad edit of Don't Wait Up For Me prior to this. The 'burying' of this band is criminal and I hope to do a little bit of turnaround on this in my neck of the woods after I get these two...now if I only can page down and find Peter Noone's Tremblers LP I will be in powerpop heaven....oh.please!

Duncanmusic,

Yo' thanks for dropping in on us. Hope you made a killing with all that vinyl even though it was probably heart v's head there ? I agree that these guys should be mainstream - just so cool.

Ok if you mean Tremblers - Twice Nightly album then you can find it here :

By the way another very good choice it's minted :)

Good luck & hear from soon

The reason there is listing confusion in record stores and on the web is because The Beat changed their name to The Paul Collins Beat. Paul Collins has had a good career in Europe, Japan and more recently in U.S., Canada and Brazil. Collins tours with The Beat army as well as his solo material as Paul Collins. Collins' new material is very good, but different from the heavy rock sound of The Beat. The Beat Army still plays most of the 1st album at their concerts. Do a google search for Paul Collins Beat, he has been an activist for music piracy and file sharing. The Beat have some new albums they released as free downloads on their official websites and myspace. good stuff.

thank you very much!
