Parliament - Osmium 1970

"Osmium" was the first album by funk band "Parliament" and led by George Clinton. I listened to this album twice before I decided to write anything, because I hadn't heard them before and was real taken by them. The album is very funny, with catchy lyrics and sweet harmonies. I especially like the track "My Automobile" for its gusto and improv, and I'm pretty sure that in a few of the numbers I can hear James Brown in there. Did I say James Brown ? I sure did. And to top it off, there is an amazing smattering of "Over The Sea To Skye" in "The Silent Boatman" track. Lovely. This is a very under rated band and I thank my fellow blogger Jan for bringing them to my attention. They are real cool and natural.

Excellent album that I've had for years. To clarify, the title is Osmium. The band is Parliament, before they added Funkadelic to the name. They were originally a doo-wop band called The Parliaments, but once George Clinton & Eddie Hazel hooked up, it was musical mayhem.

Yo J.

Thanx again for pointing out my mistake. :] In my excitement, I guess I just mixed the title/artist up. You really know your s**t. No-one else noticed.

And yes you're right, this is a great album J.

Tx & your comments are always appreciated.

PS. I have found some of your albums - only on vinyl i'm afraid @ eil and gemm.

Speak soon my musical friend ;)

Congratulations Chuntao, and welcome to the rollercoaster world of Parliament/Funkadelic. You have so many great (and some not so great) albums ahead of you.

My first album was Cosmic Slop, then I got One Nation Under A Groove ("who says a funk band can't play rock"), then the blue album with Flashlight on it...etc etc. P-Funk All Stars with Sly Stone...

But I'd never heard this Osmium album before, thank you for it. However, there's a glitch/spike in the first song. Does this occur on your copy too? Should I dload it again? Should I free my mind, and my ass will follow? You bet.

You have a way of saying things Leo :) I will check again to keep your mind at rest and download it for myself. I'm sure it's fine and it's probably your little mp3 player. But maybe not.

As far as those albums you mention i actually don't know of them so I will put them on my list and try to listen to them soon.

All the best dude
